This is definitely not what I was expecting. I thought I'd be getting a book that went into a little bit of depth into the different types if photography businesses and how to setup each different kind. Instead I received this self-published blog post in print form. With sloppy grammar intact, but unfortunately with hyperlinks NOT intact. In the print form, the hyperlinks appear bold, but have no expanded URL in a footnote or in the back of the book, which would've been handy. See the attached photo for an example of this.Another annoying aspect of this self-published book was that the section headings became detached from their text (I'm sure there's a typographic term for this). The title of one section would appear at the bottom of one page, then you had to actually read the contents of that section by turning the page. Just sloppy. I wish more care had gone into small things like this.More sloppiness: the text is very surface level and quite short, so the entire text has been double-spaced to beef up the page count a bit (see the attached photo). Also, the back cover is quite baffling, as it seems to be an advertisement for a different book, but the more you read, the more you realize that it's actually the back cover intended for an entirely different book (see the other attached photo). The author invites me to "continue reading for even deeper information on Stress Management...". What?!A few good points. The book is a great jumping-off point for photographers, as it explains very briefly the different types of work in photography, and the different things required for each type. Also very briefly, things to keep in mind when starting and promoting your business. These are helpful tips, but I feel like I've read many of these things before online in blog post form. (This is encouraging, maybe I can write my own book on this someday...)On the one hand, I did learn a few things and it would be nice to keep this for reference or to give to other budding photographers, but on the other hand I feel like this was overpriced and very low quality, as it seems like minimal effort was taken to convert an obvious blog post into book form.There is also a crazy amount of fake reviewers for this book. Check the review history (or lack thereof) of all the raving one-sentence 5 star reviews. Very suspicious.
I purchased this book for my best friend who is an amazing photographer and I think she should really start making money from this. While selling stock photos is a good income source there are a number of other possibilities and good ways to make a living like a photographer. I read the book and I think it covers pretty much everything one needs to know when starting a photography business so I would definitely recommend it.
This book is a complete waste of both time and money...there are better less expensive brief introductions to starting a photography business. This is not a book, but rather several blog posts combined together. Do not buy thus book, not worth your time and your money..no tips or information of any value in it..
This book was a complete waste of time and money. The information - what there is of it can easily be found on 'help' type of web sites. There is no details to any topic. The complete 'book' could have been printed in a 10 page 4 X 6 inch booklet for High School kids. I fail to see how a publisher would print it and someone would have the nerve to charge $13.95 for it. Save your money and just do some searching on the Internet on starting your own business, then buy a book geared directly at someone who wants to penetrate the markets of professional photography.
It's one thing to be able to take great photos but to be able to turn it into your career requires another skill set. This book gives a good road map to start a photography career.
I found this to be a very insightful book. As I am in the process this helped me solidify some things
I wasn't impressed. I don't necessarily think a book has to be huge to get the information across, but this book should have been entitled, "An overview of how to start a photography business" I mean it kind of glances over most of the topics you would need to know about to start a photography business, but that's all it does. It doesn't really get into HOW to do those things. I already know what subjects I need more information on but this book doesn't give me that information. If the idea of starting a photography business literally popped into your head yesterday, this might be helpful, not for someone who's been mulling the idea around for several years.
This book is worthless. Read it in 30 minutes. Zero valuable information in my opinion. What a joke.
